Nutiva Coconut Oil Review
First things first: Before I review any coconut oil, I must get the basic requirements out of the way first. There are just some things that a coconut oil must have for you to consider it, and other things that you should absolutely avoid. Any coconut oil that didn’t meet the basic requirements of being unrefined (virgin), organic, and cold-pressed wouldn’t be on the Coconut Oil Tips site to begin with! That said, Nutiva coconut oil passes every one of these basic tests. Nutiva’s extra virgin coconut oil is unrefined, pure, raw, and organic. So it’s a truly healthy, beneficial coconut oil brand. So let’s continue the Nutiva coconut oil review for its other merits!
Nutiva’s coconut oil company profile boasts a superior production process, choosing young ripe coconuts that are cold-pressed soon after bring picked. The cold-pressing keeps the health-boosting fatty acids in tact, and the timing of the coconut maturation contributes to good flavor and health.
When I tried adding it to my green fruit smoothies, now that was amazing.
Nutiva Extra Virgin Coconut Oil Specs
Nutiva’s coconut oil is made to be a truly organic, raw product that is unprocessed and unrefined. Here are some of its merits:
- Certified Organic
- Virgin, aka Unrefined
- Non-hydrogenated (so no trans fats)
- Unbleached
- Non-deodorized
- Non-GMO
- Cold-pressed (preserves the quality of its fatty acids)
- Safe plastic container
As you can see, it’s made to high standards, a great choice for consumption. When I first tried Nutiva, my only concern was the plastic container, since some plastics can leech chemicals into products. But when my jar arrived, I realized it’s made from a BMA-free type of plastic that is safe for food storage, so I was very happy.
Nutiva Taste and Aroma
Nutiva coconut oil has a light but delicious creamy flavor. As a moisturizer, its aroma is delicate and sweet, and makes my skin smell like a warm, sugary macadamia nut cookie!
As far as taste, it’s the only coconut oil I will eat straight out of the jar. Eating tablespoons of oil is sort of like eating butter — it’s not exactly nice texture-wise, but the flavor of Nutiva makes it doable if you want to take some as a quick supplement.
Cooking with Nutiva Coconut Oil
Because it does have a coconut flavor, I don’t recommend using Nutiva’s coconut oil for cooking scrambled eggs, or something like that where it would clash. It definitely didn’t work for me, anyway. Now, when I tried adding it to my green fruit smoothies, that was amazing. It completely enhanced my favorite fruit blend with a delightful tropical aftertaste. I loved it, and I still use it this way! (It’s also good for dipping banana chips in, adding to coffee or tea, or as a butter substitute in sweet baked goods.)
Some other unrefined coconut oils have a smell that is more pungent than sweet. And some, such as Louana coconut oil, have no smell and no taste. I’m convinced that the aroma and taste being present indicates a superior product. It usually means it is minimally altered or processed and has been properly pressed and retains its healthful benefits. Just another reason I’m now such a believer in Nutiva.
Nutiva Coconut Oil Price and Value
The Nutiva Coconut Oil price is very reasonable compared to other coconut oils, and they even have some really good deals on Amazon with double-pack offers. By buying more than one, you get an excellent discount. This is fantastic if you’re like me and use coconut oil for multiple purposes. This way you can keep one jar in the bathroom for beauty purposes and one in the kitchen for cooking. There are tons of sizes and value-pack options available.
